Mornings, afternoons, evenings, 2018–2023

The focus of this series is my grandmother, who has Alzheimer’s disease and is cared for by her daughters in the countryside. Although she is never seen in the photos, I wanted to capture the stories and processes of her daily care through medications, medical equipment, lists and other everyday objects. These „care objects” create still lifes that reflect both the caregivers and the person being cared for, without turning their illness into a spectacle. My family collected and organized these objects for the photos. While some images are clearly staged, others subtly blend into the everyday environment, giving it a sense of timelessness. The series illustrates the repetitive and monotonous nature of caregiving, as well as the feelings of despair and shame associated with it. A key photo shows my grandmother’s notebook in which she records her blood pressure readings daily, underscoring the ritual nature of caregiving and pointing to the inevitable end of this routine.
